Glenrothes 25yo

Aged for many years in refill wood, this lovely old Speyside malt only needed an extra touch of sherry to be perfect for its 25th birthday: a final period of 18 months in another second fill Oloroso cask. Our goal was to achieve a very classic sherried profile, with the right balance between austerity and richness. Quite winey at the nose, it’s dry but also fruity, with a rich note of raisins and candied oranges. A farmy hint, but also still bearing the fragrance of cereals. Complex, old-style dry sherry dominates the taste: raisiny but with that typical oxidative note of old Oloroso-matured malts. Maraschino cherries, dried apricots and plums. As it often happens, the intensity of the dry wine and of the oak tannins increases towards the end: a surprising rush of spicy astringency.
