A robust, fruity and winey example of a single malt from a great distillery on Islay traditionally known for its unpeated whisky. Deeply sherried, at first it may seem almost easy: sweet, rich with apricots, cherries, and red fruits in general. Give it time in the glass to let it breathe, though, and it will reveal so much more… After a while, its winey and nutty character becomes more prominent, and the sweetness is replaced by a dry fruitiness. At the nose, an increasing aroma of toasted cereals and coffee becomes evident, while the taste becomes darker: spicy, peppery, leathery, and with a finale that even turns on a rubbery and meaty note. A slightly musky hint ultimately appears, with the spiciness growing even more.
