Caol Ila 2008

A different twist on a traditionally dry and lean Islay malt! A finish of 10 months in a Virgin Oak cask has made the smoky and medicinal aromas gentler, with a rich, fatter and creamy mouthfeel. It’s huge on vanilla, toffee and butterscotch: still a sooty and ashy Islay character, but more muscular. Big notes of liquorice, even a hint of sweetened coffee, but not too tannic or heavy from the oak. Take your time to admire the evolution in the glass, with the peaty aromas quickly growing in intensity
