A more robust than usual expression from this Speyside distillery, thanks to the maturation in first fill bourbon barrels. As expected, it’s a single malt with a delicate nose: flowery, rich with springtime aromas, rose petals, and a gentle malty sweetness. At the palate, it’s very smooth, almost buttery, with a distinctive finesse and ethereal fragrance. Its initial deceiving simpleness actually hides much more, and very soon the heather honey and flowery fragrance starts to build up in intensity, matched by a liveliness that is unexpected from such a light bodied whisky. First some notes of beeswax start to show up, then the creamy sweetness is matched by a very mineral and firm character, and in the end it actually turns up to be rather peppery and playful. A gentle whisky, but with a spicy surprise.
